Noticing that after her mother-in-law’s visit to the cottage, the dog was growling at the garden beds, Emily, amidst her husband’s chuckles, decided to weed them. But digging deeper, she froze in shock at what she uncovered…

Daniel stood beside her, his calm gaze reassuring. The judge, a stern older man, reviewed the documents…

Silence hung, broken only by the lawyers’ whispers.
“We now address the property division between the Petersons,” the judge said evenly. “Plaintiff’s counsel, proceed.”

James’s lawyer, a smug man in a pricey suit, argued that the cottage was a valuable asset Emily couldn’t maintain, emphasizing James’s financial contributions.
“Honorable court, my client, Emily Peterson, has poured her heart into this cottage. It’s not just land and a house—it’s her happiness. No money can replace that,” Emily’s lawyer countered calmly.
“Moreover, the cottage provides Emily income. She grows produce, sharing with the community and her students.”
Witnesses were called.

Margaret testified, supporting Emily but wavering, torn between her son and fairness. Then Daniel took the stand, speaking clearly and convincingly about Emily’s kindness and her saving his son, arguing she deserved the cottage for a fresh start.
“Honorable court, it’s just to award the cottage to Emily Peterson. She’s earned it,” he concluded.
After heated debates, the judge retired to deliberate.

The room was thick with anticipation. Emily sat, breathless, heart pounding.

The judge returned and ruled: the cottage was Emily’s. She exhaled, tears of joy in her eyes.

She’d won, securing her chance at happiness. Daniel hugged her outside.
“I knew it’d be okay.”

Daniel and Ethan visited the cottage often. Ethan played with Max, helped in the garden, and grew to love the place as much as Emily.

Daniel began subtly courting her. Unlike James, he was attentive and understanding. One evening, watching a sunset in the garden, he proposed.
“Emily, I love you. I’m not great with words, but you’re the most important person in my life. Marry me.”

She smiled.
“I love you too. Yes.”

A month later, they had a beautiful, simple wedding. Ethan was thrilled, soon calling Emily “Mom.” They were happy.

They lived at the cottage, surrounded by love. Max guarded their peace. Emily thought of James, shaking her head: where was he now?

Rumor had it, after linking with Sarah, James fell apart, lost his job. They’d planned to scam Daniel, but now… James rented out his apartment, fell victim to fraud, and lost it. Sarah left him.

Margaret took him in, still loving her son, but kept visiting Emily. Emily had no regrets. Through hardship, she found true love and sincere happiness.
